The lever action repeating pistol invented by Horace Smith and Daniel Wesson fired a Folbert type rimfire cartridge or "rocket ball". Uniquely, an extension of the lever mechanism ejected a used cartridge and seated a new cartridge. The lever would also cock a trigger actuated firing pin. The design was so revolutionary that Smith and Wesson formed theire company to sell it.
